Writer and GOP-backed House candidate Mike Cargile has frequently posted bigoted content on Facebook, including writing a racist rant in which he used the n-word and told Black people to “quit blaming white folks for your problems. Take your black ass out there and show them kids there’s a better way than husslin’ on the street.”
Cargile has also shared memes which questioned whether Muslim members of Congress are working with terrorists; stated that “2 illegal aliens having an anchor baby does not produce an American”; and suggested that LGBTQ people are leading to the end of days. During Sunday’s “Breaking News Bible Study” program, radical anti-LGBTQ activist Scott Lively defended convicted sex offender Bill Cosby and asserted that the dozens of sexual assault allegations were ginned up to discredit him ahead of protests in Ferguson, Missouri, over the police killing of Michael Brown.

May, a pastor in Knoxville, Tennessee, whose biblical worldview radio program airs on WETR on Sundays, said that while “slavery is an unfortunate event … it’s not something to lose your mind over,” especially in comparison to what he thinks are more pernicious sins, like homosexuality or witchcraft.

Hawley was far from alone with his disdain for the ruling. Anti-LGBTQ groups and outlets expressed alarm. Family Research Council president Tony Perkins wrote in a blog post Wednesday, “Suddenly, we fear for our kids’ classrooms, our sons and daughters in the military, the future of adoption and competition, and the vanishing hopes of any Christian to run a business or ministry without being sued.”
